Polarity for solar panels means.
Before i replace the controller i have a few questions.

I don t know if someone had wired it wrong or if there was some way that it could reverse polarity on its own fwiw i m going with someone had it wired wrong i don t see the physics and electro chemistry of the panel reversing polarity on its own that is but i m not a solar panel engineer or solar expert.
A simple voltage reading will show you the polarity of a solar panel even when inside.
Another way to find the polarity of the solar panel is to check with a volt meter.

To measure across the solar panel terminals or wires put the red positive meter lead on one side and the black negative on the other.
If you have added extra wire or an extension to your lead wires you can measure the voltage at the end of these.
But when solar panel equipment is poorly installed in some cases this can result in electrical faults that cause arcing.
This means that the panel is not connected to either a battery or a charge controller.
